How much were you at the House of Love and Prayer?
Was a Regular
How did you meet Shlomo?
I was very young (about 15) and very innocent, and searching to understand what life was all about. I met Reb Eliya (who is my husband's nightly chavrusa today) and Miriam on Chanuka at a Habonim convention. I still remember the beautiful d'var Torah that he told us; how Shamai's shita differed from Hillel's shita because Shamai was on the level where he was able to see nothing but the unadulterated truth; he was at a level where we strive to be, whereas Hillel was where we really are... I remember how unbelievably accepting everyone was of this young, giggly teenager, and of how free I felt to be able to be who I am, rather than who everyone thought a teenager should be. It was a time of self-discovery, of learning about a connection to Hashem that I had never known before, and slowly deepening and developing that connection. Meeting Reb Shlomo was really automatic. He was the backbone of the House. I remember how moved I was by his stories, sometimes to the point of tears. It says that there is no greater joy than release from sefekot, doubts. From Reb Shlomo and the House, I realized that Hashem is real, and that the Torah is emes, truth. Until then, everything was "doubts" I had no clear path in life. So I guess you could say that Reb Shlomo and the House brought Joy to my life.
What is your Jewish and/or spiritual practice today?
Baruch Hashem we're Breslover chassidim, very much a part of the chareidi world.
Where do you live now?
Jerusalem, Israel
Please tell us a little about your life today.
am very, very grateful to be able to live in Eretz Yisrael. We recently married off our youngest daughter and are working on our third minyan of grandchildren. On a professional level, I am a writer and content editor of breslovworld.com. My newest book is "Bridging the Golden Gate" (Amazon has it). I love my job and I love my home, family and life, and I am very grateful to all the people at the HLP who in just being who they were -- so open and caring and accepting -- helped me to become who I am today. Thank you.
If you answered "Other," above:
thank you for having been there for me...

Last summer I visited San Francisco for a day. I spent the day walking through GG park, and then to the old House on Arguello Street. It was very emotional for me to stand on that street, where I had discovered my neshama and connected with those things that have become the most important things in my life. I felt as if I should make the bracha, "sh'asah li ness b'makom zeh, " "Who has performed a miracle for me at this place."

Interesting, one of my sons-in-law is a real Reb Shlomo chassid. Ev… Continue

Hi Debbie
Rose (formerly Yosepha, formerly Janey) and I both have that day free so let us know what time and where you'd like to meet. I live in the EAst Bay and she lives in Menlo Park so we'd both have to travel a bit.
