What year(s) were you at the House?

How did you meet Shlomo?
A friend from college took me to a concert. I never knew I had a soul until I met Shlomo at that concert, and even then, I knew something had happened to me, but still didn't know what. I went to the local Synagogue the next Shabbos, but what I found there, and what I had found with Shlomo did not seem like the same religion! I decided I had to meet Shlomo again, and, since he had given me his card at the concert, I called him and arranged a concert for him at my school. That was the beginning.
What is your Jewish and/or spiritual practice today?
After I met Shlomo, and started exploring Orthodoxy, my father said to me, cynically, "Ah, now you have all the answers!" "No," I replied, "now I have a whole new set of questions!" Here it is, thirty-some years later, and I am still asking questions. On the outside it looks like I am an Orthodox Jew, keeping Shabbos, Kosher, halacha, living in Tzfat, learning Kabbalah and Chassidus, (mostly Breslov). Inside I am still Shlomo's chassidiste, working to bring his teachings into the world.
Where do you live now?

Please tell us a little about your life today.

If you answered "Other," above:
Find support for publishing Shlomo's teachings, particularly in the form of CD's, MP3's, etc., so people can hear Shlomo teach in his own voice.

Elana, What happened? On Feb. 20 you told me that you had contact with Ira , and an arrangement was made to leave them by a mutual friend of yours. I called Ira yesterday, and he said he did leave them by the friend, Zahava Wolfstein. He also said he e-mailed you yesterday with her mobile #, and e-mailed Zahava to let her be aware of imminent contact. Please keep me informed.

Elana, I hope all is well with you. I sent a few e-mails to your personal e-mail address, but have not received any replies. I assume the e-mails didn't go through. I would like to know if you received the cassettes sent through my daughter, and Ira Josephs. Please let me know. Sholom, Ne'eman

Hi Elana,

So nice to hear from you. Yes, Ephraim & I had a reunion at the home of mutual friends this past motzei shabbos, which is when I learned of this site. What a trip to see someone after 35 years. We had a nice chat about old friends.

I have 1 married daughter & 2 grandchildren here in Baltimore, 1 unmarried son here, a daughter in NY, a son & 2 grandchildren in Florida, 1 married daughter in Los Angeles and another son also in L.A.

I was trying to remember a trip we took to some spiritual or peaceful place. I can't remember the specifics, but I know we had a great time. Did you ever go to the "Meeting of the Ways?" I went with someone else from the House as the representatives for our "spiritual" path. There were reps there from each spiritual path that had a following in the greater bay area, of which the majority themselves were Jewish. I found that sad, but humorous.

Are you part of a Breslav group there in Tzfat? My daughter Shayna has a friend named Chava (I think married to a guy named Yitz) who was part of Breslav in Tzfat. She's here now. Shayna mentioned your daughter Shalvi, so I know they knew each other.

Thanks for writing back.

Hi Elana,

Do you remember me? We were good friends back in the day and lived across the street from each other on Shrader St. Our daughters met in Israel; my daughter's name is Shayna & she told me she had met your daughter and perhaps she met you also.

Love to hear from you.

Elana, Sholom aleichem. I loved your story about Hershele, with the classic line at the end. I haven't had such a good laugh in a long time. Knowing Hershele and you , I could picture the whole scene, as if I was there.
What have you done so far with Shlomo's teachings? I still have @ 60 cassettes of his teachings, mostly from the period of the yeshiva attempt, Shulchan Aruch in the mornings, and Rebbe Nachman in the evenings. For years I had a similiar idea, but I realize I'm not going to get it done. Nearly all the cassettes are in pretty good condition. Would they help you? I would like to give them to whoever is most likely to publish them. Most people still think of Shlomo as a singer only, not aware of what a great teacher he was. Sholom, Ne'eman
